Culled from thoroughbreds of the Orlando, Florida music scene, Tel Aviv Bats is comprised of current or former members of such stock as The Rules, One Drop, Zoltan Dobi, Denature, Adventures in Immortality, The Delusionaires, Obliterati, and Numb Right Thumb.
Tel Aviv Bats began as a recording project in December of 2005 when, after several attempts at corralling a stable drummer, Adrian Taylor, Jim Ivy and Todd Elliott invited their long time friend and musical comrade Pat Wood to sit in and record a few pieces. Pat, having been at the center of the creative music scene in Orlando, had moved to New York in pursuit of bigger fish but was back in town for a visit.
After a very successful evening of music and festivities, it was soundly agreed upon to continue the sessions, whenever Pat was able to make it back this way. Several highly fruitful sessions took place over the course of the next twelve months. Between recordings, Jim, Adrian and Todd continued their seemingly endless search for a worthy local drummer to fill the large shoes left empty due to the increasing costs of travel between New York and Orlando.
Then, in the final stages of the summer of 2006, the search came to a triumphant conclusion with the addition of Robby Copeland into the fold. Although the band was now complete, there was some time before Tel Aviv Bats would make their debut upon the live stage. This extra time was spent in various ways , including welcoming a new member to the Copeland family.
Finally, on December 29, 2006, Tel Aviv Bats had their debut performance at the Crooked Bayou in downtown Orlando. Having no other band sharing the bill that evening, Tel Aviv Bats were able to stretch out and explore during the three set evening. (See flyer)
The bat had finally taken flight...
